THE TOMATINA FESTIVAL View larger

More info

This festival has been held ever since 1945 when two youths were involved in a jovial accident that ended vegetable- and tomato-slinging battle. The following year they repeated this battle and little by little the villagers made history for Buñol. In 1957 the authorities condemned the festival and the local folk protested with a coffin that contained a big ripe tomato. The protest achieved its goal and the fun-loving, partying event became official and became a total success. In 2002 the party was declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest by the Spanish Tourism Board. This tour will be escorted by a fun-loving guide that will explain the basics for the Tomatina experience.
